Chronological age refers to the amount of time that has passed since a person's birth, measured in calendar years, months, days, and hours. It is the most straightforward and commonly used method of determining someone's age. Unlike developmental age, which measures a child's physical and cognitive development relative to their peers, chronological age is purely a measure of time elapsed.
For most everyday purposes, such as determining legal rights, eligibility for programs, and milestone tracking, chronological age is the standard reference. However, in medical and developmental contexts, especially with premature infants and young children, adjusted age (also called corrected age) may be used instead.
How to Calculate Chronological Age
